Photographer on the Civil Rights Scene (Collection of Frank Murray)
Frank Murray is a white reporter, now retired after 41 years in
the news business. Six of those years were spent covering the
White House, and eight at the Supreme Court. Free-lancing for
UPI while working for the Jacksonville Times-Union, he reported
on St. Augustine when racial tensions mounted in the Oldest
City.
Frank was inspired by the selflessness and courage of the local
demonstrators, especially Dr. Robert Hayling. He has maintained
a collection of his own memories of those days. Here are some of
the scenes Mr. Murray captured as an eyewitness.
