The Government House Museum is located in the Plaza at the heart of St. Augustine. Here visitors will find an informative introduction to the cities 400 plus years of history. The first floor was opened by the State of Florida as a museum in 1991. Since its re-opening, many archaeological artifacts have been added to their exhibits including a ship’s hold, a prehistoric Native American canoe, colonial weaponry, and gold and silver pieces from Spanish shipwrecks. It is an intriguing museum for both children and adults alike.
The Government House building was constructed in the early 1700’s, making it one of the oldest structures in the entire city.
